Nexus Root Toolkit 2.0.5

Would you like to unlock Nexus phones? Then Nexus Root Toolkit is your ideal solution. The program contains all the files required to unlock and root Nexus devices easily. You can also use it to perform different tasks, including:
  • Rooting and unlocking phones
  • Flashing the phones back to stock and re-locking them
  • Installing apps
  • Setting file permissions
  • Flashing zips
  • Backing up and restoring data
  • Generating bugreports and logcats
The Toolkit works with both GSM and Verizon versions of Nexus phones. Once it detects a device, it will download specific files needed for the model to ensure the latest files are used.Using Nexus Root Toolkit
Although Nexus Root Toolkit performs tasks that many people dread, it features a minimalistic user interface that allows users to access most functions using single clicks. There are no extensive menus to plough through in order to use the program.
Once we had plugged in our Nexus device, a quick start wizard helped us select its model and the version of Android it was running. The program then took us to the step where we were required to back up our settings and data. This is a very important step. The ability to back up and restore data is very important because the functions Nexus Root Toolkit performs result in total data loss.
We then entered the Initial Setup phase where configurations and drivers were installed. The program then performed a quick test that confirmed our phone was ready. In addition to rooting, unlocking, flashing, backing up and restoring data, the program allowed us to boot .img files to any partition on the device. Under Options, we could set file associations, disable messages and configure extra recovery settings.
If you want to get the most out of your Nexus phone, then Nexus Root Toolkit is a powerful tool that is also user friendly. Even if you had never tried rooting a phone before, you will not find the program daunting.
Although Nexus Root Toolkit is relatively easy to use, you must note that the process of rooting phones requires some skills and knowledge of related terms. Rooting gives you complete control over your phone, but a wrong step can easily lead to disaster. Thankfully, the program provides plenty of tips and warnings.

We all know how important software updates are, the importance magnifies even more when the operating system needs updates. Some of the updates might even be critical and eventually end up saving the day or ruining it if you don’t keep your system updated.
Here are 5 ways you can use to update your Windows operating system.
However you will ask “why not do it the usual way I’ve been doing it in the past?”
The answer is that these alternative ways are specially useful for:
    (1) Users that format their hard disks or reinstall Windows frequently.(2) System builders or network administrators seeking to quickly install all updates to multiple Windows PC’s.
    (3) Security conscious users who do not wish to expose their computer to the internet.
    (4) Users with a slow connection to the internet who want to avoid slow download times by using a faster connection on another computer to download Project Dakota, and burn it to a CD, DVD or flash drive.
    (5) Users with a small internet usage cap who don’t want to use it all on updates.
    (6) Users who want a faster way to update Windows without having to connect to the internet to download updates.
So here they are:

1. Autopatcher:

AutoPatcher provides a large collection of updates, common applications and registry tweaks, that can be easily and quickly applied to your computer system with minimum user interaction. What you do is simply download a file, run it and choose the updates, application, tweaks you want to install/apply. Then off you go and have a stroll – that’s pretty much the amount of interaction you have to put in. Nifty! Its available for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and Office.

2. Project Dakota:

dakota Project Dakota is a similar project that allows you to get Windows Updates once and then apply and reapply them any number of times with a minimum of interaction.
Available for Windows XP only, it lets you download an ISO file, burn and use it anyway you like. New versions of the Project Dakota ISO are released each month.
Keep in mind your copy of Windows would have to pass the WGA check for the Project Dakota Download to be available. (There are of course workarounds to this, just in case!)

3. Offline Update:

Using the c’t offline updater you can update files offline just like the above two methods. The process however is slightly different. In this case you first download an approx 1MB file and then choose the various options and click Start. This will download files according to the attributes you checked.
c’t Project supports a large number of languages and Service Packs. It’s pretty much the only option if you want to venture into updates for non-English versions.
It supports Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, windows Server 2003, 64-bit editions of XP and Server 2003, Windows Vista, Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003 and Office 2007.

4. Windows Update Downloader

Windows Update Downloader (or WUD) allows you to download all of the current Windows Updates using a simple interface. To download the updates you would have to add what are called Update Lists. Update lists are available from the site and you can choose the update list for the Operating System/ Software you want to update.
Using those update lists you can then download the updates for the particular OS / Software. It also has a built-in option to use proxy and authentication.

5. The Good Old Way!

Well I’m not so sure about the ‘good’ but yes it’s the traditional and trusted (by many) way of updating Windows. So what if it involves a number of restarts, so what if you have to do it all over again after a re-install, so what if you have to do it separately for all computers? So what if you get errors? Hey it works fine sometimes!
error
You decide and tell us which one suits you and which ones you use? Or do you prefer not updating Windows for some reason? (I know many who don’t!)

Update Your Windows Operating System

(5 Ways)

We all know how important software updates are, the importance magnifies even more when the operating system needs updates. Some of the updates might even be critical and eventually end up saving the day or ruining it if you don’t keep your system updated.
Here are 5 ways you can use to update your Windows operating system.

How To Check For Android Updates On Your Android Phone

Android is a revolutionary operating system produced in part by internet giant Google . It is most known for running the Nexus 1, Samsung Galaxy, LG Fender, and other mobile phones. While some refer to this phone as a standalone “Google Phone,” Google has made efforts to increase awareness that there is no such thing
The Open Handset Alliance (OHA), a consortium that includes technology companies like Google, Texas Instruments, Motorola, Qualcomm, Samsung, and others that has committed itself to creating unrestricted standards for cell phones and other mobile devices. The result of this is Android, a Linux-based mobile phone operating system, OHA’s first product. This software was released with an open source license by Google in 2008. Since that time, virtually every major mobile phone manufacturer has ported Android to one of their phones. Android is rapidly gaining traction in the cell phone marketplace, primarily due to the revolutionary open source development kit that has enabled a plethora of applications to become available to run on it. As of late 2009, Android is estimated to have 3.5% of the smartphone market. Current estimates suggest that Android will become the second most popular mobile operating system by 2012, ahead of Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and iPhone.

Automatic Android updates

One of the features of Android is its ability to receive updated software as it becomes available. This update feature runs in the background, ready to accept updates as they are “pushed” out to the phones. Because there are so many Android based phones in use, not all of them receive updates to the Android operating system at the same time. Users of Android phones have the option to wait until updates become available on their phone, or they can follow a simple procedure to manually check for Android updates. This functionality is a lot like the Windows Update feature found in Windows that downloads updates and asks you for permission when they are ready to install.
When left to itself, the Android-based phone will place a notification on the phone’s home screen and prompt for confirmation to install. Once the updates are accepted, the user can go to device information to confirm that the latest version of Android is now on the phone.

Checking for Android updates

  1. Power up the phone and press “Menu” to unlock it
  2. Push the “Home” key
  3. Push the “Menu” button.
  4. Touch the screen or use the navigator wheel to select the “Settings” option.
  5. Within the “Settings” menu, select the “About phone” option that is found towards the bottom of the list. This option displays the version number and build number of Android that is running on the phone.
  6. Touch the “System updates” option. This causes the phone to look for any new Android updates. If an update is available, the phone will download and install it.

Creating a shortcut

  1. There is an application available called AnyCut that can help simplify the update process by creating a shortcut to “Device info.”
  2. Install AnyCut by going to Android Market, and then touch “Search” and type in “AnyCut.”
  3. Create a shortcut on the phone’s desktop.
  4. Choose “AnyCut” from the list and choose “Device Info” as the “Activity.”
  5. Scroll to the end of the list and press “Check for updates.”
  6. Once the process has completed, exit to the home screen where you will be prompted to install the update.
One of the strongest features of the Android mobile phone operating system platform is found in its ability to receive updates as they become available. For those who can’t wait their turn to get them, the manual update feature is a godsend. Also, the security advantage of Android updates should not be overlooked. As soon as vulnerabilities are discovered, developers are able to correct them and distribute them automatically to the phones to protect users from damage
